The Official Music Video For "BLUE and GRAY"

BLUE AND GRAY © Dulcie Taylor
All along the river the campfires are lighting
The soldiers are making an evening meal
The horses are bedded, the big guns are quiet now
A rest for the weary from the battlefield

On one side a boy from way down in Georgia
Is thinking about Macon where he’d rather be
On one side a boy from up in Illinois
Is thinking about Springfield where he’d rather be

One wears Blue, and one wears Gray
But they’re hard to tell apart, a difference to see
They’re both covered in dust, they both put their trust
In the same God above, what a sweet irony

Some have family, some have friends
Who fight on the other side of the battleline
Holding rifles ready to fire
Not knowing what bodies the bullets may find

One wears Blue, and one wears Gray
But they’re hard to tell apart, a difference to see
They’re both covered in dust, they both put their trust
In the same God above, what a sweet irony

All along the river the campfires are lighting
The soldiers are making an evening meal
The horses are bedded, the big guns are quiet now
A rest for the weary from the battlefield
All along the river the campfires are lighting

ABOUT BLUE AND GRAY:

Dulcie Taylor was born and raised in South Carolina. She has always been mesmerized by the Civil War, one of the most tumultuous periods in American history. Her latest single, “Blue and Gray,” transports listeners to that era. Written by Taylor, the recording is simple and moving. She plays the Applachian dulcimer along with an intensely personal vocal performance, while Tammy Rogers, a celebrated Nashville musician, adds texture with her fiddle, weaving around Taylor’s voice and melody. The song paints a vivid picture of one night, along one river, during the war.

Dulcie Taylor learned a hard music lesson at age ten - don't leave your ukulele unattended in a porch chair at the beach. Of course, it was smashed to bits by a clueless teenager. Fortunately, her mother replaced it with a guitar, sparking Dulcie's lifelong passion for playing, singing, and songwriting.

An award-winning performer, Dulcie has been a recording artist with Mesa/Bluemoon Recordings since 2002. Her collaboration with label president and producer George Nauful has led to the release of seven CDs and three EPs of original songs. Throughout her recording career, Dulcie has been a radio favorite and has received widespread critical acclaim:

“As always, her delivery shimmers like a multi-faceted gemstone.”
-Robert K. Oermann, MusicRow

“Her ability to turn ‘then’ into ‘now’ gives her songs, whether set a hundred years ago or last week, a sense of immediacy and timelessness.”
-Eric Brace, The Washington Post

“An array of sepia-tinged life truths find a glimmering voice…contemporary roots music infused with soulful Appalachian spirit. Taylor brings to her music a Southern vocal lilt, tender lyrical insights, and a knack for pristine melodies.”
-Jim Kirlin, Wood & Steel

“With twang, edge and the ring of emotional truth, Taylor creates songs that are lyrically and melodically powerful.”
-Paul Freeman, Pop Culture Classics

“She’s been labelled as Americana, Country, and everything in-between. She’s remained sharply focused on her ability to write emotive lyrics, engaging melodies, added to a non-typical vocal style which brings the lyrics to life. The end result is an undeniable intimacy.”
-Eric Thom, Americana Highways

Dulcie has performed across the US at many varied venues including The Kennedy Center, the Whisky a Go Go, the Troubadour, The Bluebird, and the Kerrville Folk Festival Mainstage. Besides songwriting, Dulcie is a writer of poetry and prose and has served on the Board of Directors for the Poetry Series at the Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world’s largest collection of Shakespeare’s original printed works.
